SCULPTING NATURE
with Wendy Lawrence

4, 6,7,8 June, 2021

I live near the coast and mountains of North Wales – immersed in geology which continues to be my focus. This interest has evolved into an appreciation of natural form and texture in its entirety. I have been documenting geology, form, surface and texture through drawing, photography, collecting found objects for years. My work is also inspired by monoliths, stone circles, troughs and wheels: forms that capture the majesty of stone.

My work combines the simplicity of form and textural carved elements found within erosion, focusing on sculptural pieces which are no longer a surface quality but become part of the form itself.

The course begins at 10am UK time each day. (11.00 EU time)

LANDESCAPES
with Steve Mattison

date to be confirmed

The place where your spirit feels most at home may be a physical location that you can return to at any time, or it may be more nostalgic of a home, not attached to a place, but a time from the past that you can only return to by revisiting old memories. It is a longing that’s experienced when you walk back over the doorstep that your parents walked over and your grandparents. It is met when you knock a front door in the street you grew up in and recognise the sound from your childhood.

It is the knowledge and experience of a particular place that generations have given each other, a rich relationship with the landscape of our birth. It refers to the fleeting moments of passing time - a place or the time which we instinctively belong to or feel most connected. Our home-place.

The course begins at 10am UK time each day. (11.00 EU time)

Hi Wendy, Thank you so much for the most inspirational and certainly the absolutely best organised course I have ever attended!
My head is buzzing now with ideas that I could apply to my Masters project, but, most importantly, you gave me the tools to play, explore and combine manyfold techniques in infinite ways - priceless!!! Your delivery was incredibly stimulating, professional and humorous, and you were so lovely and encouraging - there are no words to describe how privileged I feel to have been allowed into your workshop this week! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Steve, thanks for being our attentive and knowledgeable moderator!
I would give you 5***** on Tripadvisor.

Johanna, course participant

The course was well organised and worked way better than I ever hoped. It was great to have your own workspace and kit to hand. It’s left me with a lifetime of techniques that I am still digesting. Basically it was like 14 courses rolled into one but done in a calm and relaxed manner.
Many thanks

Dawn, course participant
