29 August - 2 September, 2023
course fee: 350,000 huf.
On the course you will learn the process of design, creating the original model from plaster and making the moulds ready for slip casting or press moulding.
You will be introduced to Gabi’s design and making techniques and the different types of moulds you can create using the plaster wheel - single piece, two part, multiple parts etc.
She will demonstrate ways of mixing plaster, designing in 3D and carving your original models from plaster. Techniques for multi part mould-making and crack moulds will be demonstrated and you will construct your moulds using these techniques.
The workshop language will be English and Hungarian.
Please come prepared with ideas and sketches for what you plan to make during the course. Gabi will then advise on the most appropriate ways to achieve your idea. You can also bring the actual object if you have already made it.
Gabi does not want to give you a uniform theme for your moulds. With everyone working on their own ideas then you will all learn from each other as well. It is likely that everyone on the course will have different experience of plaster working. You all know your own knowledge and speed at which you work. Above all be flexible with your plans and open to suggestions. Also be realistic of what is achievable in the time you have. So bring your drawings and sketches and Gabi will guide you through the process.
Gabriella Kuzsel is a ceramist and teacher specialising in modelling, mould-making and slip casting porcelain. She works for commission, designing moulds and finished works for individuals and production while producing her own distinctive pieces for exhibition. She is a lecturer in the University of West Hungary where she specialises in ceramic design.
